Prof. Peter Tagiuri of RISD visited the Architecture Department of CAA

Prof. Peter Tagiuri paid a second visit to the Architecture Department of CAA from Jan. 10 to 15, 2006. He had first visited the department last June to proceed an exchange teaching program called Ghost City¡ªSpace Board of Living and Death, which was turned to be a great success.

The professor first enjoyed the charcoal drawings exhibited in the art gallery of CAA, which was drawn by the freshman and sophomore students of the Architecture Department. He spoke highly of those works as well as the hardworking and staidness of the students.

After that, he attended a review on the works of the sophomores. He observed the models and drawings of the students¡¯ with great interest and made comments on their works.

He gave two lectures on Jan.11 and Jan.12, which was a serial lectures composed of tales of nine architects and was called Architects¡¯ Tales. This time he told tales of two architects in the two lectures separately and leaves the others to the next visit in June. Walt Pichler, a sculptor as well as an architect, considered a lot about the relationship between the building and the people living in the building. He conceived the close connection between the body and the building and made designs on the connections. Although, he designed buildings of small scale, his persistence and staidness was worth learning by students of architecture. Eileen Gray, first a painter and then a lacquerer and finally an architect, was a female artist contemporary with Le Corbusier. She constructed architecture space with eyes of a painter, skills of a lacquerer and with other human senses such as acoustic sense.

The exchange between the two departments is delightful and useful. The two departments both hope such exchanges will be continued in the future.
