Anders and Mike, two young teachers from Konstfack School of Arts, Crafts and Design in Sweden, were invited to our department giving a lecture on the afternoon of May.21st.
Konstfack, one of the most famous design schools in Sweden founded its Industrial Design Department in 1983. This time the topic was Design and Commercial Creativity. Anders, who had studied commerce discovered with a designer and businessman¡¯s eye that in this new era an excellent designer must fully consider the market, while a superior businessman must learn some related knowledge of industrial design. He and other two colleagues founded a group for clients, and promoted their idea called ¡°design and market is over-share¡±. They suggested students should adjust design to corporations¡¯ advertising campaign and assured them proudly that it would be the main trend among global design companies.
The dean, Prof. Zhao Yang summarized. He hoped all the students would learn from the Swedish teachers¡¯ experiences. ¡°Do you want to join corporations or fight by yourself? Will you start from the basics or stay at design? Think over please.¡±
This lecture reinforced our teaching practice. We have applied for a research funding about new educational models for training all-round students.
